This issue is from the Pontic Kingdom issued by Mithradates VI during the first Mithradatic War. This superb ancient gold stater (19 mm) has been certified by ICG as VF30. The obverse depicts the diademed head of the deified Alexander right, with horn of Amon. The reverse depicts Athena seated left, holding Nike, left arm resting on shield, spear behind; trident in exergue. Ancient gold occupies the apex of classical numismatics.
