Unusuall vignette of two angels with wings on each side of an early battery labelled 'EDISON'. Thomas Edison received a record number of more than 1,000 patents and in addition to his more famous inventions of the light bulb and phonograph, he also invented the battery which powers all of our portable electric devices today. The first electric chair was built around 1889 and was designed in Thomas Edison's New Jersey laboratory. Edison was an advocate of direct current (Usually obtained by using batteries such as those manufactured by this company) and was competing with George Westinghouse who favored alternating current. Edison suggested using Westinghouse's alternating current for the electric chair to dramatize how dangerous his rival's method could be for everyday household use. Although this company was formed to sell batteries it was latter combined with other Edison companies. Excellent-near mint condition. Extremely low certificate number. Engraved by Franklin Lee Division- American Banknote Co. (Click to Enlarge) Shipping InfoBuyer to pay shipping and handling of $2.95.
