Denton Asses friends1/2 penny Conder D&H 298-1796 token Start Price USD 24.99 Current Price USD 1,275.00 Time Left - Bid Count 21 Buy It Now Price - Reserve Price - Start Time Monday, August 25, 2008 End Time Monday, September 01, 2008 Location Putnam, Connecticut See more about 'Denton Asses friends1/2 penny Conder D&H 298-1796 token' Description  Denton Asses friends1/2 penny Conder D&H 298-1796 token-     OBVERSE:  Image in center of a seated man smoking long pipe.  A wine glass and coins appear to be on table.  A man stands behing him, and is about to put a dunce cap on him.  Text around:  TOKEN COLLECTORS HALFPENNY  1796 PAYABLE ON DEMAND REVERSE:  Two jackasses, as friends, with heads near each other.  Text starts out of one jackasses mouth, as a cartoon, and continues spiral like around the two jackasses, and then continuing around the edge of the token.  Text of jackass comment:  BE ASSURED FRIEND MULE YOU NEVER SHALL WANT MY PROTECTION DATE:  1796 COMPOSITION:  Copper SIZE:  29.6 mm EDGE:  Lettered edge:  ANY SUM GIVEN FOR SCARCE ORIGINAL IMPRESSIONS CONDITION:    Even toning.  Bright backgrounds as copper shines in a few places on both sides.  No wear obverse.  Reverse has a tiny planchet crack by the I in friend.  There is an odd looking dig or puck on the Reverse side, by the "YOU".  This may be from a misformed planchette.  Puck is not the result of an edge drop, dent, or ding, as it is barely evident on the Obverse side.  Reverse has some surface marks and spots.  Obverse is in Very Fine, almost Mint condition.  This is companion piece to D&H 299, on ebay at this same time.  Reserve has been set on this token, similar to the D&H 299. This came from a collection, in a small cloth bag.  Paper disc in bag had text:   MIDDLESEX Denton's D & H 298  Atkins No. N.L.60    (R) Baldwin Paper envelope has stamp on back:  Collection of Joel Spingarn.  Front of paper envelope has writing:  MDX D/H 298 Ex-NOBLE  R.  One seller who had D&H for sale at $995.00, did not have this one for sale.   **************************************************************************************************************************************** PAYMENT:  No direct bank transfers.  I prefer checks or MO over PayPal, but the choice is yours.   Personal checks or Money orders are fine.
