To prove it to an Unbelieving Public he brought several - from his home base in Hartford, Connecticut - to the London Exhibition, had them dismantled and the parts mixed up, and then easily re-assembled one at random! His Single-Action Army Revolver, which began production in 1873, was affectionately known as the "Peacemaker"  And man did it ever help to Keep the Peace!  It provided a handy method of defense so that a smaller man or even - Good Heavens! - a Woman need not suffer the depredations of some hulking desperado! And so it has been said, and with some justification, that God created all men, but Sam Colt made them equal.
