There were 3 types of taxes: the main tax (impôt principal), the supplemental tax (impôt supplémentaire) on all wives, from the second one, and the tax advances (avance sur impôt) during World War I. From 1910 to 1940 the administration used tokens as proof of payment. The hole(s) were used to put a cord through and carry the token round the neck or the wrist. Every year a different reverse was used, also the shapes changed. The tokens are made of aluminum, except for the years 1916 to 1920 which are made of iron. In total 69 tokens are known.
