Description
ANS New York City 300th Anniversary 1926 Medal. Obverse and reverse letterpress half-tone (screened dot image) copper acid-etched plate, tacked in the corners onto a type-high block of wood. Ink residue on wood, paper applied to back to increase height slighly when used in a press. These were probably used for illustrations in the American Journal of Numismatics when the medal originally was offered for sale, and re-used for the 1957 Centennial History edition. Very nice for a desk paperweight. A very nice letterpress cut. For size reference there is part of a 6" ruler in the scan, and each block is just over 2-7/8 square, with a height of 15/16 inch. Paper residue on back to make a stronger impression when on press. Condition as found. This item was disposed of officially by the ANS in a house-cleaning during the mid-1980s. Email questions. Winner to pay $5.00 First Class Mail P&H in the US, a bit more elsewhere. Insurance if requested, extra. Shipment discout of $2.50 for each additional lot of the letterpress printing cuts won. Other items up for sale this week. Paypal okay, personal checks prefered.
